AACC Tennis Club Goes Indoors for Winter

November 18, 2008

The Anne Arundel Community College Tennis Club has arranged for indoor tennis at Big Vanilla.  Club members have the opportunity to join weekly indoor tennis practices that began in November 2008 and will continue until March of 2009.  Plans are afoot to create a club team to play against other local college clubs.  The resurrection of Tennis at AACC is an attempt to replace the dwindling college tennis competition that has occurred due to budget cuts in athletic programs nationwide and student work schedules

In previous years AACC had outstanding Tennis Teams and had won National Intercollegiate competitions as late as 1997.

Current Students of AACC are eligible to join and practice with the club, but proof of current enrollment is required.

Then & Again – Antique Mall in Annapolis

October 25, 2008

Then… & Again Antiques & Collectibles in Annapolis held an an antiques home-show today with great success.  A large group showed up today to get up to 4 verbal appraisals of antiques with $5 donations per appraisal accepted to support the Leukemia Society.

I spoke to Beverly Rossetti about the event today and she said it has been a great turnout.  I always enjoy visiting the mall on my trips through Annapolis where you get a chance to meet many of the dealers that have space in the Mall.  It is a friendly atmosphere and a great new destination for antiques in the Annapolis and Anne Arundel County area.

Low Cost Textbooks for College

September 15, 2008

This is a great idea.  For those of us that have often bemoaned the cost of college textbooks and wondered when things will change, here is an answer.  As described in an article in the New York Times Technology section some professors are making their textbooks available online to cut out the middleman.  In addition, the new print on demand publishers are able to under-price the standard college textbook market.

Let us all hope this becomes the norm.

Heat Wave in Anne Arundel County- Reschedule Sporting Events.

June 9, 2008

Expect the air quality to be very bad for the next few days based on previous heat wave results.  If you are a jogger or involved in some intense physical activity, consider moving your schedule to later in the week.  This is simply not the weather to test your endurance.  The weather reports say that the heat will abate by mid-week.  Let us all hope so.

Blue Angels In Annapolis

May 21, 2008

The roaring sound freedom supplied by the Blue Angels passed through Annapolis today without the normal opportunity to see them due to overcast skies.  This yearly ritual is something most will never know, but it is a tradition and comforting knowledge that our skies are protected.

With this treat comes a minor inconvenience, bridge closings.  Here are a few links to get the up to date information on the Naval Academy Bridge closing.

Also, here are some videos of the Blue Angels.
